    Denton pitches itself as part of the "Golden Triangle" with Dallas and Fort Worth at the other corners.

    Which as we know is much more referred to in America than the "Metroplex" is that excludes Denton from Dallas/Fort Worth.

    They are Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs). They take into account the populations of entire counties plus the counties around them that have a certain level of population density.
