    Hard to argue with Bumgarner for on-the-field accomplishment, but what about bigger-picture selections like Michael Sam or Adam Silver?

    Both transcended the sport they are involved in.

    Sam never got on the field. He didn't transcend anything. He was the ESPN flavor of the month.

    He did in the preseason, but that doesn't really matter. Coming out before the draft and being selected is a big deal. If you don't think that's a big deal, I'm not going to argue with you.

    Just not into the whole transcended sport thing. Seems like it's become
    too much of a throwaway line. Glad that SI went back to it's roots for their
    selection.
