Maybe on potential. Not sure what kind of prospect Wainwright was when he was coming up. I'd have to go dig through the old stashes of BA and BP. But Wainwright was certainly more accomplished at the major league level than Posey at the time of their injuries. Just entering his prime, he was challenging Halladay and Co. as the best pitcher in the NL. He's giving up a lot of home runs this year early on, but his K/9 and K/BB rates seem to indicate his stuff is coming back.

I think you guys are shortchanging Wainwright in this discussion. Guy is/was money.

I hate the Cardinals more than any team in baseball but when he's going healthy, Adam Wainwright is close to as good as they come. He absolutely fits that list of athletes.

For what it's worth, Suggs says he'll be back in the middle of the season.

If Kindle is finally 100% healthy, it's not going to effect them as much as people think. He's a spitting image of Suggs. We also can't forget that they drafted Courtney Upshaw to play linebacker, not defensive end.

No dude. No. Kindle is to Suggs like I am to Tom Junod. We're both white guys who write for a living. It's a ridiculous comparrison.

Kindle is more athletic then Suggs and made the same plays that Suggs made in college.

You are clueless about this. Kindle, had he not fallen down TWO flights of stairs, cracked his skull open, suffered diminished motor movement and a permanant loss of hearing in one ear, could have been a decent edge rusher, just like Suggs was when he came out of college. But there is zero chance he would be as good against the run, and dropping into situational zone coverages, which is what makes Suggs an elite player. "Athleticism" is only one part of the puzzle in what makes a great NFL player. Desire and smarts and focus count for a considerable amount.

As is stands, Kindle is a guy with a bad knee, no confidence, diminished motor skills, no grasp of the complicated schemes the Ravens run in their hybrid 3-4/4-3 and he has no experience outside of practice. Also, two DUI convictions and he's deaf in one ear.

    Rethink this one, Iron Horse.

The Steelers won the last two Super Bowls with an undrafted free agent carrying the mail for them. A great offensive line can make an average NFL back very good.

The Steelers need north/south runners, and they are a dime a dozen.

OK, so let's see. We've already lost Sean Payton, Jonathan Vilma and Terrell Suggs for the season and we're not even a week into May yet. Peyton Manning remains a great unknown.

Anyway we could just bring back the lockout and fast forward to 2013?

Not disputing that Suggs is one of the top defensive players in the game, but who would people consider the best defensive player in the NFL?

I mean based on who you would want right now on your team assuming they were healthy?

    Patrick Willis?
    Darrelle Revis?
    Suggs?
    Ngata?
    Peppers?
    Polamalu?
    Mario Williams?

Mendenhall was an undrafted free agent?
