Yeah, but most Amtraks have a bar area. Getting drunk passes the time well.

I take a bus to Boston all the time, about 300 miles one way, cheaper than driving and faster, far more comfortable than a plane, and in fact, given delays at airports these days, faster than flying and much much cheaper. Goes right to South Station. Buses today are much cleaner and more confortable than 20-30 years ago, akin to taking Amtrak. My worst travel experiences, in terms of comfort, passenger behavior and cleanliness, have all been on airplanes.

Went around the country on Amtrak once, too. A five and a half day return trip, one night in a sleeper. I survived. Drove it in a '65 Plymouth Valiant, too, with three other people. You all need to toughen up.

Outside of those that are plagiarized or manufactured, there aren't many pieces of journalism that I'd refer to as despicable.
    This is one.

Not always true. Ramen noodles can be worked with on other dishes or as something quick to cook when feeling lazy.

    FACT!
I used to ride the bus from DC up to Newark when I was in college. Wow was it awful. Between the wait to get on the bus, the individuals that shared the ride with you and the location of the bus stop in DC, I actually thought I was in Hell.

A lot has changed for the better with Greyhound.

Low airfares put a lot of stereotypical bus passengers on airplanes.

The main difference is you spend more time with them on a bus.

I was born in the backseat of a Greyhound bus, rolling down Highway 41.

Now here's a good story about a Greyhound bus ride :

On a greyhound thirty miles beyond jamestown
He saw the sun set on the tennessee line
He looked at the young man who was riding beside him
He said i'm old kind of worn out inside
I worked my whole life in the steel mills of gary
And my father before me i helped build this land
Now i'm seventy-seven and with god as my witness
I earned every dollar that passed through my hands
My family and friends are the best thing i've known
Through the eye of the needle i'll carry them home

    Chorus:
    Days turn to minutes
    And minutes to memories
    Life sweeps away the dreams
    That we have planned
You are young and you are the future
So suck it up and tough it out
And be the best you can

The rain hit the old dog in the twilight's last gleaming
He said son it sounds like rattling old bones
This highway is long but i know some that are longer
By sunup tomorrow i guess i'll be home
Through the hills of kentucky 'cross the ohio river
The old man kept talking 'bout his life and his times
He fell asleep with his head against the window
He said an honest man's pillow is his peace of mind
This world offers riches and riches will grow wings
I don't take stock in those uncertain things

    Chorus:
    Days turn to minutes
    And minutes to memories
    Life sweeps away the dreams
    That we have planned
You are young and you are the future
So suck it up and tough it out
And be the best you can

The old man had a vision but it was hard for me to follow
I do things my way and i pay a high price
When i think back on the old man and the bus ride
Now that i'm older i can see he was right

Another hot one out on highway eleven
This is my life it's what i've chosen to do
There are no free rides no one said it'd be easy
The old man told me this my son i'm telling it to you

    Chorus:
    Days turn to minutes
    And minutes to memories
    Life sweeps away the dreams
    That we have planned
You are young and you are the future
So suck it up and tough it out
And be the best you can

Is Greyhound worse or better than a ride on the Chinatown or Hispanic bus lines?

The stench is equally bad, but if you don't understand Chinese or Spanish the ride is infinitely more enjoyable as the awful banter won't be understood.

Why bring race into this. I'm willing to bet that you have NEVER riden a bus through Chinatown or a Hispanic neighborhood.

Boots, you obviously don't have a clue what I'm talking about.
