A lot of planning obviously went into this in regards to which roads to take and avoid, what time of day to hit them, etc. What amazes me is that they were able to maintain those speeds despite the little annoyances they couldn't possibly plan for, like two governed trucks trying to pass each other when one is going 64 mph and the other is going 62. Or, as you noted, a Left Lane Larry or two that cause safety issues. Or unforeseen wrecks and slowdowns that not only close off one route, but clog several alternate routes. Or a cop who pulls onto the highway at just the wrong time for them.
All of those things can cost you a few minutes here and there that add up.

Aw, what the hell, push it up from 150 to 190 and make up some time, right?

How many deaths have been caused by these cross country jaunts?

Wonder if they can be charged with 13 counts of reckless driving --- one for each state --- since they basically confessed to it.

When they discussed a close call, the two drivers made a point not to state who was driving at a particular time.
