I should add a who gives a shit option, but what the hell....

This one was pretty good, but Hatch hooked me on 1, just figuring this fat naked gay guy would get his ass voted off. Never happened. Still probably the greatest player even though inexplicably the man believed he didn't have to pay taxes on his winnings and wound up in a federal prison. Makes you wonder just how much is scripted.

After enduring a long stretch of suckitude that started about the fourth season, the past two survivors have been excellent.

The increasing twists, though, make it less likely that this will continue. I think we're approaching the end, but they have managed to go out with a bang. Last two season have seen some of the best players ever and some solid strategy.

Of course, it does seem that they have started putting two savants with a crowd of idiots to achieve this, but it does make for better television.

You could play this last season over and I bet Earl and Yau Man would make the final four again. That's how dumb some of the competition was. Lisi? Rocky? Alex and Eduardo?

They could play against fifth graders and lose.

I'm not sure I like the three-person final - and it seems that the last few finals have been blowouts - still I was watching last night's reunion and I barely remembered the first half of the contestants voted off. Maybe they should try pairs (man and woman) that would have to be voted off as a tandem with pairs randomly selected and a $2 million prize. Still, I wish Earl had at least voted Cassandra to give Yau a shot. And the more I think of it - in a lot of ways Dreamz deserved to be in the final three (challenges, vote duplicity) more than the others, but there was no way he was going to win. I'm surprised no one said that at the final tribal council. I knew Earl and Cassandra weren't going to point that out.

My wife is the Survivor expert – she's watched all but the very first as it happened – and I gave her the vote.

    She went with Cook Island.

Indeed, it seemed to me to be the one she'd been most animated about in conversation with me.

"A classic Survivor setting and definable good and bad guys," she said.

I watched the first one – which I roundly enjoyed – but have felt no real compulsion to watch the others. I've dipped in to check them out, but that's about it.

For me at least, you can't start watching these shows halfway through the season. If I miss the first episode, I won't watch at all. But that's just me. ::)

My vote is split among VII (two of the show's most memorable characters in Rupert and Johnny Fairplay), IX (alone among six women, Chris exploits the premature cattiness and steals the win), and X (masterful performance by Firefighter Tom at a time it seemed like an alpha male would never win it again).

I've seen every season... The first one was perfection thanks to Richard Hatch.

Marquesas was great up until the end. All-Stars was pretty damn good too...

I voted for Cook Islands, but the first one would be a close second.

As good as some of the players were, I think Cook Islands had the two best ever: Yul Kwon and his mental masterpiece he painted the entire 39 days, and Ozzie, who dominated the challenges like I've never seen before.

I will say that Richard Hatch pretty much made this show what it is. He introduced alliances to the game, and completely changed which way the producers envisioned it going, i imagine.

Thailand was probably the worst season. Survivor IX was pretty bad too.

The last two seasons have been very good...

If Hatch hadn't won, there's no way this show would have caught on the way it did.

Hatch had it a lot easier. It was season 1 and he was surrounded by morons, but he still played it as perfectly as it's ever been played.

Boston Rob played it damn near perfectly in All-Stars, except he didn't win...
