    This, from Sandra D:
"WASHINGTON (AP) -- Retired Justice Sandra Day O'Connor would have preferred to stay on the Supreme Court for several more years until she was ill and "really in bad shape" but stepped down because of her ailing husband."

BTW -- She was one of several people interviewed for PBS's "The Supreme Court" that aired last week. Interesting series -- OW Holmes came off as apathetic, while contemporary John Marshall Harlan was shown as active and compassionate (I had been taught and likewise thought otherwise) -- and Day provided some of the most insightful thoughts on the history of the court.
Wish she could have stayed on. Didn't always agree with the rulings, but at least had the impression that she was a thoughtful jurist.
