The First Officer on that USAirways flight who testified with Sully pointed out that between the two of them, they had over 70 years of combined flying experience. And that this was not going to be the case in future generations.

I shudder to think that there are janitors making a helluva lot more than some pilots. Heck, I shudder to think that I make a helluva lot more than some pilots

It's even worse at the express level.

In order to get hired at any level, you're going to need 250 hours of commercial multi engine training, and obtain your ATP license. Of course, you may not have experience on the aircraft you will be flying.

Starting salary have paying almost 100 grand to get your ATP? About 18,000. Those pilots are only paid when the beacon light is on and the cabin door is closed. And they're only flying an hour at the most at a time. Same for the FA as well. So yes, you can have a crew with very little experience on board.

That doesn't mean they don't what they're doing, but the rising cost of certification along with the decreased demand of the military during the 90s lead to this point.

Yes, the auto pilot does most of the work in the air. If the pilot decides to use it. But on the smaller planes, they're not equipped with auto land. Just sayin'.

Looks like Sully can buy all the new clothes he wants: a $3 million two-book deal, and the second book is poetry.

A lot of HarperCollins jobs could have been saved for that advance. Ridiculous.

    That really is cool.

    "Which runway would you like?"
"We're gonna be in the Hudson."
