Strangest story idea pitched to me in a long time

Got this in an email at work today:

I really thought it was a joke for a little while.

 

I think this has the potential to be a hell of a feature. I'd love to write something on this.

 

Well, now you have the press release and the contact web address.

I agree it could be a great story.

 

I found a photo of the league's all-time leading scorer

 

So wait. They load up some homeless people, fly them to Cape Town, feed them, house them, then bring them back here and deposit them back on street corners across the country?

The hell?

 

My area doesn't have much of a homeless problem, so it'd be next to impossible to localize this. Oh well.

 

I don't know why, Duke, but that's fucking funny.

 

I'm pretty sure it's a lot more noble than my first impression. But I initially envisioned Bum Fights on a soccer field with the winner getting an apartment.

Reading more of the press release, though, convinced me it's actually a fairly worthwhile thing.

I want someone like Jones or Whitlock on the scene.

 

I think HBO's Real Sports did a segment on this. Or Maybe it was ESPN. Who knows? Whatever the case, it's no joke and would make for a killer feature. Do it. Do it.

 

Al Tompkins could help with that.

 

It was Real Sports and it was really good. As is the case with most Real Sports features.
I'd do something. Just because I think it is interesting.

 

So I guess there's no home teams, right?
