I thought this interview with an Oakland executive had a really interesting point:

He talks about how statistical analysis has become " kind of like 30 guys with 30 radar guns."

Essentially, all the teams are doing it and it's all well-known enough now that there's not any advantage to be gained from it. Everybody has the same stats in front of them.

 

I have a copy of the 1979 World Series program in my house, and I noticed this picture. Anyone notice what I noticed?

 

Jackson forgot his Yankees uniform and had to wear an M's jersey.

 

I remember at one All-Star game in the 1980s, Lou Whitaker traveled without his uniform and had to buy a replica Tigers hat and jersey from the concession stand and stencil in the No. 1 with a magic marker. He borrowed pants and a glove from one of the home team players.

 

I remember that too. I think it was the year the game was at the Metrodome.

 

It cracks me up thinking he was wearing the uni of the crappiest team in the league for that picture.

 

Chris Chambliss is in camp?

 

This will sum up the Yankees' clusterfuck of a season in just one picture.
