Since football is underway or will be shortly, I thought I would start a thread for the lurkers who don't have a clue.

Tip 1: You won't cover the big game, even if you offer to do it for free.
Tip 2: If you're asking for advice here, you're already clueless.
Tip 3: Try your hand at writing 60-inch gamers on beer league softball. Talent isn't required at some community rags.

I see someone began his day with a 12-pack.

I don't know about you, but I'm just getting started at the 60-inch mark on the beer league softball rundown.

Meanwhile, the lurkers shake their heads and make mental notes to tell their friends about the morans at SportsJournalists.com.

    21,

We'd be naive if we didn't think that was already happening. ;D

    Sigh. I can dream.

Great conversation recently with a pal who is a columnist at major metro. For whatever reason, I mention SJ. He says, casually (undoubtedly hoping I would not notice his left eye twitching), 'Oh, I never look at that site, I hear it's all disgruntled copy editors and jerks.'

And before I can tell him that some of my best friends are jerks, he says, 'And anyway, they really hate me there.'

'How do you know?' I ask, because I've almost never seen his name mentioned here.

'Oh, I search every few weeks, and...umm....yeah, never mind.'

Lots of lurkers. Plenty who know how to cover an NFL game, btw.

I suspect even some lurkers know you can't drive from Williston to Fargo in four hours, however.

Sounds just like the coaches and players who never read the paper and complain about what's in it.

Not too many morans around here. Enough morons, myself included.
