Different paper, Full, but I have had a few beers with the gentlemen from that fine newspaper.

By the way, unlike a few other folks, the guys I used to drink with never gave anyone a hassle if they were drinking ginger ale. In fact, there was a grduging respect.

A.) Then you haven't covered a race in the past four years, since it went to Nextel sted Winston. I have NEVER seen anyone walk out of a media center or press box with beer or cigarettes.

B.) Your later post about "a couple years ago" every seat having two packs of cigarettes is full of shit, because Winston hasn't been the sponsor since 2003.

Next time you're out, I'd say that to your co-workers who are drinking; they'll respect your honesty.

I enjoy a sociable drink or three.

I especially enjoy drinking with my wife, on just about every Sunday evening.

I drank all kinds of crap when I was younger, especially Southern Comfort and such. Now, I like a good (and if it's cold, how bad can it be?) beer and I'm learning to appreciate wine.

A more problematic situation for me in terms of drinking was when I was having panic attacks but before I got professional help. Then, I was self-medicating. Not a good thing.

  5. It's just that they give me this shitty look like something is wrong with me for not getting smashed. I don't judge them openly, why should they judge me ... because it's quite obvioius by their reaction when I don't order alcohol that they are offended.

Then why hang out with them?

I haven't had a beer in about a week. It might be the longest I've gone since my freshman year of college more than five years ago.

    I'm beginning to shake.

Once upon a time, it was every night. I figured one year, I spent about 5k of my then 27k GROSS at the Pub....
Now, I cant tell you the last time I drank at a bar. Doesnt mean I dont have a couple at home, but back in the day... every night....

I spent a decade in a bar. It was a good bar. It was a good decade.

    I survived.

I came from a family with an alcoholic father. But I realized the drinking was a symptom. I never swore I wouldn't drink like some of my siblings and I feel I have it under control. It's not just how much a person drinks that can be a problem, but when. I don't drink to escape anything.

That said, there are times the only thing that will quench my thirst is a beer and the best times are when winding down after writing on deadline. I never buy beer at home unless someone coming to visit wants to drink it. Two beer limit if I'm driving. If I'm drinking in the hotel bar. . . do the math.
