A lifelong Michigander, I have known many a people who have visited Houghton Lake. Er, HOE-ton lake.

And you must be a troll since Houghton in the U.P. is 400 miles away from Houghton Lake -- which is north of Clare in the middle of downstate.

BTW, for those that don't know what a "troll" is in Yooper-speak: Someone who lives below the Mackinac Bridge...

This is true. I was technically correct, as I never did say where it was located.

Most people I know pronounce it HOTE-uhn.

Michigander? I was never sure about the term used to describe those from Michigan, however I always wanted it to be Michiganian. Personally, I would like to be a Connecticutian.

You haven't been to Michigan if you haven't heard the term.

Friend who lived on the UP would always say "What's good for the Yoops is never good for the 'Ganders," in complaining about the UP's relative lack of power in state legislature.

Actually, I spent spring break of my senior year just outside of Ann Arbor. I wasn't much paying attention, however.

I'm guessing people in Ann Arbor don't go tossing around the word Michigander. At least not in the couple weeks you were there. But I've heard it my whole life.
