    That's on the order of $19,481 per year ($9.36/hour) where I live once living costs are accounted for.

    Basically, you can spend your entire day time doing news reporting, then go cover sporting events in the evening and follow it up with a night full of page design. And then when the weekend rolls around you can go work on the outdoors beat.
    At least you would have zero time to sleep/eat/have a life/shop, so the lack of salary really won't matter much.
