The Columbus Telegram, a small Midwest daily, is seeking a sports reporter who also has page design/editing skills or would like to develop those skills and some photo abilities. We are a locally focused sports operation.

The successful candidate will be a well-organized, self-starter who is broadly versed in all areas of prep sports coverage. On the page-design side, you will use Quark Xpress and Photoshop. A degree in journalism is desirable but not mandatory. Experience could be substituted.

The small city location of this position is ideal for its relaxed lifestyle. Omaha and Lincoln are within easy reach.

This position could lead quickly to greater opportunities if you have the skills and ambition.

A reliable vehicle, insurance and valid driver's license are required as is a post-offer, prehire drug test.

An excellent benefits package includes vacation, medical, dental, 401(K) and more.
Apply by e-mail to jim.dean@lee.net with cover letter, resume and 3-4 work samples attached (PDFs are best). Regional candidates preferred. Call if questions, (402) 563-7527.

Sounds like an OK gig. Anyone know anything about this?

What are greater opportunities? Pay is not good and if sounds as if they don't want anyone who isn't from around the area.

I know the AME Patrick Murphy pretty well. Great, great guy who works his ass off. Other than that, couldn't tell you the first thing about the paper.

There was an opening here in July as well. I'm sure the ad is in this site's archives, but it was apparently "filled" then. Guess he didn't pan out.

Nate Carey, a recent U. Wisconsin graduate, has taken the job.

  10. Glad they were allowed to fill the position.
