The Times-News of Twin Falls, Idaho, is seeking a talented, cutting-edge sports reporter to join a four-person staff that punches above its weight and leads the way in reporting sports news in southern Idaho. Anyone can write a game story, but we want a multi-faceted reporter who will go beyond the box scores for human interest and issue stories, while breaking news and living on the leading edge of our organization’s Web-first mentality.

We aim to be first and best both locally and statewide. Our sports staff is as talented as any in the state, earning three APSE awards in the past two years and a dozen state and regional awards over the same. Our sports alumni have gone on to work in larger Western metros like Boise and Colorado Springs, while news alums have worked in media markets like Madison, Wis. and Chicago.

Twin Falls is a growing community of around 45,000 people, with more than 130,000 people residing within our coverage area. We cover a perennial NJCAA power in the College of Southern Idaho, 28 high schools, and the three major in-state universities. This is an affordable community with great schools and if you love the outdoors, you’ll have access to great hunting, fishing, kayaking, rock climbing, hiking and mountain biking.

The Times-News is a 17,500-circulation daily newspaper (21,500 on Sundays) owned by Lee Enterprises. We offer an excellent benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, paid holidays and vacation. We are an equal opportunity employer. You can see our website at www.magicvalley.com and learn more about our company at www.lee.net.

Applicants should submit a resume, cover letter and five writing samples demonstrating a range of reporting and writing ability at www.magicvalley.com/workhere. No phone calls, please.

We are a drug-free workplace, and all applicants considered for employment must pass a post-offer drug screen and background/mvr screening prior to commencing employment.

(note: I'm the SE at this shop so feel free to message me with questions. The Lee job ad is open right now and I can't link to it, but there should be APSE and JJobs postings soon.)

Do folks eat a lot of potatoes or is that a stereotype?
