Russ Potts still dabbles in the sports promotions business as far as I know (I'm fairly certain he was the one who put together the 1982 Sampson-Ewing game between Virginia and G'town) but he's spent well over a decade in the Virginia Senate -- even bucking the Republican party to mount an independent bid for governor last year.

I covered him for a time as a legislator and our shared sports interests gave us a lot of common ground.
