The Blue Water Area is into sports. From state champion high school teams to international youth hockey tournaments to the biggest freshwater sailboat race in the world, we know how to play. That’s why sports is a franchise topic for the Times Herald.

We have an opening on our award-winning sports team for an experienced sportswriter. We’re looking for someone with experience, someone who’s enamored of high school sports, someone who is flexible, fast and who probably knows Derek Jeter’s lifetime batting average. Our sportswriters cover a wide range of sports, are completely wired into social media, can shoot and edit video and snap photos.

We’re close to Detroit, Canada, Ann Arbor and East Lansing, so there is always something going on here.

Successful candidate will have a commitment to quality in all aspects; good organization and time management skills; and knowledge and interest in the Internet. Must be motivated, creative and collaborative; able to take direction but also exhibit a high degree of self management; adept at multitasking; and able to respond quickly to opportunities as they arise. Candidates should have good writing, researching and interviewing skills and a good understanding of proper grammar, spelling and punctuation. Photography and multimedia experience (video broadcasts, etc.) preferred but not necessary.
