SPORTS REPORTER-Full Time

The Ledger Independent is seeking a sports reporter to join our sports team. Successful candidates will work under the direction of the sports editor.

Essential Functions:
- Cover a variety of sporting events throughout our seven-county coverage areas including football, basketball, baseball, softball, track and field, soccer, golf, volleyball or any other event which may require covering.
- Other assignments will include sports feature stories, and contribute stories for special publications throughout the year.
-Coordinate coverage with photo and/or video
-Contribute to Ledger Independent multimedia platforms including www.maysville-online.com, Twitter and Facebook with stories and updates
This is a fulltime, 40 hours per week position and will require night and weekend work.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
-Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field, or equivalent experience in the journalism profession
- Strong vocabulary, spelling and grammar skills, and writing skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Strong social media platform skills
- Must be dependable, self-motivated, and able to work under pressure
- Proven team-oriented behavior with the desire and ability to assist other teammates and work processes where necessary to accomplish the goals of the newspaper
- Must have a reliable vehicle, valid Kentucky drivers license, and proof of vehicle insurance
