The Long Beach Press-Telegram daily newspaper is seeking a digital-first reporter to become part of a team covering one of the best sports communities in the country. Long Beach is a city of 450,000 people, has one of the most highly recruited high school sports areas in the country, is a college town (Long Beach State) and excels in Olympic sports. Looking for a reporter who can deliver regular centerpiece and A1 stories that go beyond stats, gamers and notebooks. Must be comfortable in the digital world, capable of regular video contributions and seeking new ways of connecting with audiences. The Press-Telegram is a Digital First Media newspaper and part of the Los Angeles News Group, which has a daily print circulation of more than 430,000. Interested candidates should email resume, links to clips and cover letter to LANG Digital Director for Sports, Tom Moore (tom.moore.@langnews.com).

Won't pump up the hometown P-T, where I began in '89, because it's a shell of its former greatness.

But Long Beach is a great, wonderful city. Good luck to whoever gets the gig.

This was the Press-Telegram sports department in 1990. Very close department led by a great SE Jim McCormack. We played ball at the YMCA often. In much smaller groups we ran outdoor games at Mayfair Park every Friday morning.
