I worked there for a few years covering prep sports. People take prep sports very seriously there in Polk County. The coaches and parents are a lot to handle. This position isn't preps only, but I assume preps will be part of the duties. Prep basketball and volleyball state finals are held in Lakeland, and that will definitely be something you will cover. There are also some college sports to cover like Florida Southern and Polk State. I believe they just got a minor league basketball team too. I don't think there is room to get a raise, and they are downsizing more and more each year.
