    Description:

    The La Grande Observer is looking for a fast-paced, energetic, competitive reporter to cover college and high school sports. The best applicant will develop sources and regularly break news on the beat, complete great enterprise and feature stories, and be able to write clearly and quickly on deadline.

    Duties will also include writing articles for the Outdoor/Rec section, along with designing pages.
    The use of social media (Facebook and Twitter) is required as it is a core part of our coverage. Other requirements include knowledge of InDesign, AP style and photography.
    The top applicant will be a self-starter comfortable taking direction from editors, who is prepared to work nights and weekends as required. At least two years of professional experience or the equivalent are required. Experience writing sports is preferred. Additional responsibilities may include writing some general news and feature stories.

    The La Grande Observer publishes Monday, Wednesday and Fridays and is a part of Western Communications. Advancement and management opportunities within a topflight newspaper organization are very realistic for employees with a proven track record. Solid benefit package includes competitive pay, medical insurance, life insurance, flex-spending account, paid vacations and mileage reimbursement. This position will be filled as soon as possible.
