A couple of buddies and I spent a few days in Farmington on vacation one summer when I was in college, and I can see it being a hard sell. It's in an awfully remote location, the climate is pretty harsh and I got a feeling that there's a fair amount of racial tension there.

That said, it's a decent-sized town (maybe 25-30,000) with a daily that is the voice for a pretty large area, so there are going to be stories to cover. I'm thinking you could do a lot worse for a first job out of college.

The racial tension bit is true, and rears its ugly head quite a bit on the sports side. You better have a thick skin for all the times you'll have to deal with it over the phone and on their online forums. It's Navajos vs. whites vs. Hispanics vs. Mormons vs. educated vs. uneducated vs...it goes on and on.
