The Kentucky New Era is looking for a summer intern to cover the Hopkinsville Hoppers, an Ohio Valley League summer collegiate baseball team. The paid internship will last about 10 weeks starting in early June. The position’s primary responsibilities include writing game stories and features, taking photos, maintaining the Hoppers website and Twitter account, and other duties as assigned by the sports editor and the editor. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of journalism ethics and principals, a passion for baseball and sports in general, and an ability to craft well written, accurate articles on deadline. Reliable transportation is a must, as half of the games are played on the road (usually between 30 minutes to an hour drive). Compensation for the position is $300 a week along with mileage reimbursement. Anyone who is interested in filling the position should immediately email a cover letter, resume and five of his or her best clips to ljohns@kentuckynewera.com.
