    Description:

The Plant City Times & Observer, a joint venture of the Observer Media Group and the Tampa Bay Times, is seeking a hybrid Sports/News Journalist to join our community weekly newspaper.

The position will include about 80% sports coverage and 20% community news. In sports, your primary focus will be prep sports at three local high schools. Coverage also will include youth sports, outdoor activities, etc. In news, the position will include covering a myriad of beats — local government, education, religion and more.

Photography skills a plus; clear and compelling writing a must. We're also active in the social and digital spaces, so experience in video, podcasting, social media, etc., is valuable.

The Plant City Times & Observer is part of the family of hyper-local weekly newspapers produced by the Sarasota, Fla.-based Observer Media Group. Since 1995, OMG has published community weekly newspapers — long before the term was the latest trend in the journalism industry. Today, we operate eight newspapers, six websites, and an arts and social magazine in multiple communities throughout Florida. Altogether, our publications reach more than 200,000 readers each week.

Recent grads and self-starters are encouraged to apply. Competitive salary, full benefits, you know the drill. You may also send them through regular mail to the Plant City Times & Observer, c/o Editor Michael Eng, 110 E. Reynolds St., Suite 100-A, Plant City, FL. 33563.
