(Editor's note: While video newsgathering is the focus of this position, it is not a video production job. Strong news sense is at the top of the wish list, along with organization and hustle.)

    Description:

Perform Group is seeking a News Editor-Video to lead U.S. video newsgathering efforts for a global sports media company from its office in Charlotte, N.C. The ideal candidate will be a sports news junkie who will keep our staff in the U.S. and abroad on top of breaking news, trends and viral opportunities. The position requires a strong news sense, an excellent track record working in video news and a real strength in the sphere of social and digital production. Monitoring the U.S. sports calendar and preparing and executing coverage and distribution plans on a daily basis are key aspects of this position.

This is not an entry-level position. We are seeking someone with well-honed news judgment and the willingness to set coverage priorities and make confident decisions on the fly. Experience working in an assignment desk-type environment would be helpful.

    Responsibilities for this position include:

—Monitor and evaluate all developments in the U.S. sports scene throughout the day and constantly communicate newsgathering priorities to domestic and international news teams
—Respond to breaking news stories, working with other editors, to chase and obtain footage relating to these stories; phoning possible contributors, liaising with crews to ensure we get what is required from any given shoot
—Identify and source material from digital and social media relevant to the products we create
—Update the Newsdesk calendar with event coverage, and disseminate information and communicate with our Global office
—Build and maintain relationships with key contributors and maintain and update the online contact list, regularly adding comments/information to be used across News verticals
—Quality check of incoming footage in order to assist Global team when giving feedback to VJs and third-party suppliers. Also provide first-level troubleshooting with incoming footage, identifying potential issues and communicating with technical staff and production staff in the field to resolve them
