W-b, when I think of Pete Rose pictures, this is the only one that comes to mind:

At left, a hero for the distance runner, for the amateur athlete, for the underdog and for America when it needed someone to divert its attention.

At right, a more classic hero, a war hero, a builder and a doer and a teacher, a leader of men, a maverick and a cowboy and a hopeless romantic.

Without argument, the most dynamic and explosive and memorable running back to play football. Also, the most versatile and polished, daresay the best, college athlete. Ever.

That's some pretty compelling evidence that Yogi, and Tomas, are right. The umpire has absolutely no angle on the play.

Here are some of my favorite shots:

Mr. Ripken. (One of my greatest memories.)

Mr. Williams. (It's hanging on my wall.)

    Mr. Carter. (Pure emotion.)

The Bash Brothers. (It's tainted as hell now, but it takes me back to my first memories of baseball.)

    Mr. Orosco. (Self-explanatory.)

Yeah, back in 1989 or 1990. My parents were out of town and I was camped out on their waterbed, eating crackers and watching Thursday or Friday Night Baseball on ESPN. Canseco hit a home run in Toronto and McGwire greeted him at the plate.

Canseco's book was hard for me to take -- and not just because of the poor writing and couple dozen pictures.
