Sports editor Brad Engel is "walking the walk." The 30-year-old married father of one is documenting his often hilarious and always painful journey as he trains to compete in the historic Chicago Golden Gloves boxing tournament. Engel is the sports editor of The Naperville Sun which is a member of the Sun-Times News Group.

Under the guidance of boxing coach Jesse "The Law" Torres, Engel is training in suburban Aurora for his "amateur debut." A former professional boxer who is now an Aurora cop, Torres also "walks the walk," training the youth from the community for free to keep them off the street.

Since 1923, the Chicago Golden Gloves boxing tournament has been one of the great traditions of sport in one of the greatest cities in America. Over the past 80 years, just a few of the boxers who have won the prestigious “Chicago Golden Gloves Champion” title include Barney Ross ('29), Ezzard Charles ('39), Cassius20Clay ('53) and numerous US Olympians.

The 2009 tournament runs over 12 non-consecutive nights beginning March 19th at St. Andrews Gym in Chicago's Wrigleyville neighborhood. More information will released shortly. www.ChicagoGoldenGloves.com is under repair. For immediate information, registration and tournament dates, news and bios are posted on the "Chicago Golden Gloves" group on Facebook.com.

Didn't someone already do this for a "fight" with Cesar Chavez a few years back. I seem to recall reading it in GQ?

I talk the talk but my walk needs work, admittedly.
