The Mount Carmel Register, a two-day per week newspaper published Wednesdays and Sundays, is looking for a sports editor to cover one high school and one community college in Wabash County, Ill., located in southeastern Illinois on the border with Indiana.

Duties of the sports editor include covering games at Mount Carmel High School and Wabash Valley College, writing sports stories, features and columns, taking sports photographs, updating the Register's website, publishing sports information via social media and other duties assigned by the managing editor.

Page design is done at a hub in Owensboro, Ky.

The Mount Carmel Register is owned by Paxton Media Group, which also owns newspapers in area Indiana towns Princeton and Vincennes.

The Mount Carmel Golden Aces, a powerhouse football team from southeastern Illinois, are the winningest team in southern Illinois history, qualifying for the IHSA state playoffs 40 times in 43 years. Since 1967, MCHS has compiled a gridiron record of 422-125-1, averaging an 8-2 record every season. The Golden Aces play in the Snake Pit, one of the most iconic stadiums in the Tri-State area of Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky.

Mount Carmel's boys basketball team, which played for the IHSA Class 2A state tournament championship last March, returns many starters/role players this season.

Wabash Valley College teams are extremely successful in NJCAA Division I.

The Lady Warriors softball team is guided by the NJCAA all-time winningest coach, who led them to the national tournament in 2015. The Warriors baseball team finished third at the JUCO World Series last June.

In basketball, the Lady Warriors went 31-2 a year ago and qualified for the NJCAA tournament in Texas. They have added two more JUCO All-Americans to an already loaded roster. The Warriors, who consistently win 25 games per season, claimed the 2001 NJCAA tournament championship with a 36-1 record.

Wabash Valley is bringing back its volleyball program next fall after a 15-year hiatus.

You will be a one-man sports department, but there are two local correspondents who are available to help with coverage. The job comes with full benefits including health insurance, dental and vision, among other benefits. Salary will be based on experience.

This is my current position. I am leaving to become the sports editor at a daily newspaper in a larger town.
