    JournalismJobs.com - Job Listing - Sports Editor

    Description:
The Gallup Independent is a family-owned, 11,000-circulation, five-day afternoon daily newspaper covering Indian Country in New Mexico and Arizona. We are seeking a full-time sports editor who can hit the ground running. Our longtime sports editor is moving on, so the new sports editor will have the opportunity to mold the sports section in their vision. The sports editor manages two reporters and reports on local sporting events (high school basketball and rodeo are king). The sports editor is also responsible for page layout using Adobe InDesign.

The ideal candidate must be able to meet deadlines and is familiar with AP style. Hours vary and will include weekends and nights. The ideal candidate should be able to work as a member of a team but also able to develop stories and work independently. Some travel is required, so candidates should have a dependable mode of transportation and insurance. Benefits include mileage, paid vacation, sick leave and paid holidays. Health, dental and vision insurance are available. Applicants who live in the Southwest are given priority.

Please send your resume, a cover letter and clips to Managing Editor Richard Reyes: editor@gallupindependent.com.
