    The Times in Gainesville, Ga., has an immediate opportunity for a sports editor with a passion for community journalism and a vision for strong local sports coverage. We’re looking for an “idea” person who can work with sports writers to find compelling angles to routine stories. We place heavy emphasis on high school sports, and we look for cutting-edge ways to present these sports in both print and digital formats.

    The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who can take control of the five-person sports staff and be a team player in the newsroom. You’ll coordinate the daily local sports report and plan occasional in-depth reporting projects. You’ll need the ability to cover and write about sports and to design eye-catching pages in InDesign. Should be a strong content editor with an eye for detail but also understand how to visual tell a story, Good planning skills are essential.

    Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field, plus three to five years experience, preferably at a daily newspaper. Managerial experience strongly suggested. Multimedia experience is desired. Job requires some night and weekend work.

The Times, a seven-day daily with a circulation of 26,000, is a Georgia Press Association General Excellence Award winner for four straight years. We are located in fast-growing Hall County one hour north of Atlanta on beautiful Lake Lanier. Salary is based on experience.
