The Ardmoreite, a six-day daily, is southern Oklahoma's premier newspaper with a Sunday circulation of 10,500 and a daily circulation of 9,500. We're looking for a top-flight sports editor who is committed to covering local sports and athletes while giving our readers balanced coverage of college and professional sports. The ideal candidate will produce sharp, inviting sports pages, crisp and concise writing, and has a love of high school sports, athletes and coaches. Experience with InDesign, NewsEdit and PhotoShop is desired. Salary is competitive and we offer a full range of benefits, including paid time off, health, vision, dental and 401k. You will join a dynamic and evolving newsroom of 11 that is committed to journalistic excellence. You'll be located an hour's drive from two major metropolitan areas in one of Oklahoma's fastest growing communities that offers a wide range of attractions, good schools and great people. Please send five samples of your writing and three samples of your page designs. We are an Equal Opportunity Employer. This job is perfect for a sports reporter looking to move up or an editor who wants the freedom to do great sports journalism every day. Please send letter of interest plus clips and references to Marsha Miller, News Editor, The Ardmoreite, PO Box 1328, Ardmore, OK 73401 or email to marsha.miller@ardmoreite.com. Please put Sports Editor in the subject line.

    Newsroom of 11?

I guess technically they're ahead of the old 1 x 1,000 rule of thumb of newsroom worker per thousand circulation. But I remember when they were scraping 20K on Sunday and that wasn't that long ago.

I got offered this job back in '08 after I was laid off as an ASE at a larger paper. Ended up turning it down at 35K per year. It's a do-it-yourself sort of thing. Like the ad said, it could be a solid gig for a young journalist looking to jump into an editor's role.

Just be sure and keep the suicidal thoughts out while you live in one of the most boring areas in the country. Ardmore is a good-sized town, but absolutely nothing to do there. You're about 75 minutes from Norman and 90 from OKC, and another 90 from Texas.

Chances are you'll lose your entire salary at the casinos in attempt to cure the boredom.
