The Times-News in Burlington, N.C., seeks a copy editor for its sports department. Responsibilities include layout / design and editing five nights per week, assistance on special sections as well as overseeing clerk(s) on each shift. The Times-News, with a circulation of about 25,000, is conveniently located amid the busy sports areas of the Triad and Triangle. Contact: Bob Sutton, sports editor, 707 South Main St., Burlington, NC 27215. E-mail: bob_sutton@link.freedom.com, Phone: (336) 506-3050.

Bob is a top notch SE and they do cover a fair amount of ACC stuff. Also, there is a Rookie League baseball team in Burlington. Preps are decent, too. An interesting note: three Freedom papers (Jacksonville, New Bern and Kinston) are consolidating desk operations in Jacksonville.

Bob's a nice guy and one of the hardest working people I've ever worked with.

Completely back what ondeadline said. Bob Sutton works his rear end, and as a result, the Atlantic Coast Conference and the Carolina Hurricanes get pretty good staff coverage in addition to the school in and around Alamance County.

Jump on this one, guys. While Freedom hasn't done anything extraordinarily employee-friendly, the chain hasn't had the newsroom layoff itch nearly as badly as many of its peers.
