    SPORTS COPY EDITOR/DESIGNER

The Press of Atlantic City, a 40,000-circulation newspaper with a growing array of digital platforms, seeks a rock star copy editor in sports who can take the lead on a page, write excellent headlines, and play well with others.

Here’s why you should work for us:

    · The Press is a progressive news operation with a focus on communication and collaboration at all levels. Our copy desk does it all: design, pagination, headline writing, line editing, even some web producing.

    · We are passionate about what we do here and are committed to both serving readers and helping our journalists develop new skills.

    · The Press is located in southern New Jersey: Nightclubs, casinos and beaches are here; major cities (Philly, NYC, Baltimore, DC) are within a few hours’ drive.

Here’s what we ask in return:

    · Have strong news judgment, a collaborative approach and possess as good an eye for design as you do for misspellings.

    · Quickly adapt to our fast-paced operation and be capable of producing a variety of pages, from local to nation to sports.

    · Strong copy editing and headline writing skills are a necessity, along with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. This is a position where it all comes together, so you must be comfortable going from concept to completion under deadline pressure.

    · Speed, accuracy and judgment are crucial, as is knowledge of QuarkXPress and/or InDesign. A college degree is required. At least two years’ experience in daily journalism is preferred.

    · Input and creativity are not just welcome, they are required. In this ever-changing media landscape, a sense of humor also helps.

You're advertising for a sports copy editor. Why would they need to do a variety of pages?

There may be occasions where you would need to do a local news page or a nation wire page for different sections. But the job is primarily designing and copy editing Sports pages
