Good gig in the heart of Orange County, hour and a half north of NYC.

Detail-oriented copy editor needed to polish copy and help manage the flow of stories to our Internet and print products. The Times Herald-Record is an 82,000-circulation daily in the beautiful and dynamic Hudson Valley region of New York. Copy editor will edit stories for clarity, consistency and accuracy, write creative, clever and accurate headlines and photo captions, post stories to the Internet and adjust their display, and proofread pages. Candidate must possess excellent news judgment, proper grammar and spelling skills, knowledge of Associated Press style, the ability to handle deadline pressure, and thorough knowledge of the business and operations of sports teams and organizations. Experience with InDesign, InCopy and Photoshop a plus. Position includes night and weekend hours and some page design work. Send resume and work samples to Sports Editor Matt Pepin, 40 Mulberry Street, Middletown, N.Y., 10940; or e-mail mpepin@th-record.com.

A nice area to live, not far from the Pennsylvania and Jersey borders.

Also remember, though, that there is a for-sale sign on Ottaway's community papers.

About an hour north of NYC. Very pretty, outdoorsy, area. Traditionally been a good paper for its size. Lots of change there in the last year, though. New top editor. Lots of turnover. And, of course, the Rupert-isn't-big-on-82K-circ.-local-papers issue.

Rupert isn't too big on American papers in general, save the Post and the Journal.

That corner of New York state takes a serious upward turn in the 10 miles from my birthplace of Newburgh to Middletown. Thankfully.

Yeah but then you get north of Middletown and it's squeal like a pig territory for miles and miles.

Anyone know what happened to Terry Egan?

Terry is now working for Ottaway on a magazine called Orange that debuts later this month.
