The Richmond Times-Dispatch sports department is looking for a skilled and experienced copy editor/designer to join the team.

Job Description
Design pages and sections for the Sports section on deadline

Edit stories, compile roundups and write headlines on deadline

Work with photo staff to choose the most compelling visuals

Monitor, edit and post content to the Web site.

Required Skills

Excellent writer with command of grammar and AP style

Solid copy editor who can prosecute stories, is attentive to detail and is knowledgeable about sports

Creative page designer who can think visually and find ways to enhance content

Team player who can handle pressure of deadline work

Proficient user of Windows OS, Microsoft Office products and with Adobe’s Creative Suite, especially inDesign, inCopy and Photoshop

Applies individual, unique perspective to tasks and projects in order to produce original product or outcome. Creates imaginative ideas that enhance stories by making connections with photos, graphics, multimedia and other elements that illustrate news stories.

Required Experience
2 years at daily newspaper or equivalent experience.

Must be willing to work nights and weekends.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: (Must successfully pass)

• Drug Screen

Must possess automobile insurance and a valid driver’s license
