I forget the specific school, but IIRC there's a throw-away line in "Casino" about the QB of some team being on the take, and it's a pretty obscure school -- like Columbia or something.

Sports bribery charged in University of Toledo scandal

BY BEN SCHMITT and JOE SWICKARD • FREE PRESS STAFF WRITERS • May 6, 2009

Two metro Detroit businessmen and six former University of Toledo athletes were indicted today on federal charges of conspiracy to commit sports bribery in an alleged point-shaving scheme.

Charged are Ghazi Manni, 52, of Sterling Heights; Michell Karam, 76, of Troy; Adam Cuomo, 31, of Hagersville, Ontario; Keith Junior Triplett of Toledo; Anton Currie, 25, of Okemos; Kashif Payne, 24, of Chester, Pa.; Harvey McDougle Jr., 24, of East Cleveland, Ohio, and Quinton Broussard, 25, of Carrolton, Texas.

The 20-page indictment alleges that between December 2004 and December 2006, Manni and Karam paid money to Toledo athletes to fix or try to fix final scores in basketball and football games.

The indictment charges that Manni and Karam bet about $407,500 on basketball games that involved point shaving. There are also allegations of point shaving in football games.

Cuomo, McDougle and Broussard were football players. Triplett, Currie and Payne were basketball players.
