This just in about New York's ex governor.

NEW YORK (AP) _ Federal prosecutors said Thursday that they will not bring criminal charges against Eliot Spitzer for his role in a prostitution scandal, removing a legal cloud that has surrounded the former New York governor since his epic downfall eight months ago.

U.S. Attorney Michael Garcia said investigators found no evidence that Spitzer or his office misused public or campaign funds for prostitution. Investigators found that Spitzer solicited high-priced call girls, but federal prosecutors typically do not prosecute clients of prostitution rings.

Prosecuting johns is like prosecuting those who patronize bookies.

    It isn't the idea.

    Normally, I'd say yes.

But this is the same guy who threw the book at everyone involved in prostitution.

He's been punished enough. He's a Grade A Asshole, but there's no reason to dance on the grave after someone is dead.

Punished? More like embarrassed to no end, Ragu. He's already gotten raked over the coals, but if anyone thinks that him getting clowned on via jokes and comedy circuits are over, think again.

He'd get more sympathy if he wasn't such a hyperaggressive douche.

    Yeah, the "steamroller".

    Steamroll this.

One of the responsibilities of the profession: it's always open season on self-serving dirtbags, no matter their affiliations.

I agree. The glee with which we routinely tear people down is a little unseemly and misplaced at times. He set himself up, sure, but in the end he's just another guy who paid for sex. I'm pretty sure having his political career ruined and becoming a joke punchline for the rest of his life is sufficient humiliation for the dude.
