NHL, WNBA, MLS. "Thunder" as a "big three" mascot? Full. Of. Fail.

And really, you'd think in the amount of time it took them to steal the SuperCrapSonics from Seattle, the "good people of OKC" could have come up with something better than "Thunder."

Unless Clay Bennett found the jerseys cheap at Goodwill (someone's 15u team, I'd guess) two years ago and didn't want to shell out any cash for new ones. Can't wait to see what kind of video-graphic crap they come up with for it "thundering" when Durant dunks. ::)

The Storm have a WNBA title, too. (2004, for the record). But as an NBA-MLB-NFL team, it gets a resounding boo...in fact, it almost sounds like Richie Sexson just struck out or Erik Bedard just hit 100 pitches in the third inning at Safeco. (Yes, I know neither of those are even currently possible.)

At least Seattle Storm (rains a lot), Tampa Bay Lightning (lightning capitol of the world), Orlando Magic ( Magic Kingdom) and Chicago ( great fire that leveled the city) has something to do with the town they are in, what does Oklahoma City have to do with thunder???

    The Supercells?
    The 66ers?
    The Fujitas?
    The Bison?
    The Noodlers?

They've got to find something, anything else.

Yeah, "Jazz" really fits those serious folk in Utah.

Speaking of which ... There's another nickname based on a sound.

I scoured my AP wire for this story and found nothing. Does the OKC bureau observe the blue law?

The Jesii (assuming that is the plural of Jesus?) was probably Bennett's first choice.

I guess "Toothless Hayseeds" was already taken.
