Doesn't every home here in Canada now have an Inuit soapstone carving to ward off intruders? (Those fucking things are heavy too, wouldn't want to get one of those in the noggin.)

Anderson Cooper shuts up an idiot "journalist"yesterday:

A Vox on anyone who jumped to conclusions:

"Yesterday, the media reported that Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, the man allegedly responsible for a horrifying shooting spree in and around the Canadian parliament, was a convert to Islam. News reports on the shooting then spent much of the day fixated on that unconfirmed fact — even though there is as yet no evidence that his religion was a motivation for his actions. More sensational coverage discussed dubious social-media connections to ISIS.

These reports imply that because Zehaf-Bibeau was Muslim, jihad is the likely motivation for his attack. But at this stage, without any actual evidence, it makes no more sense to come to that conclusion than it would to assume that he was motivated by Quebecois separatism, just because he was from Quebec. At this point, our focus on the Ottawa shooter's religion says more about our own fears than it does about anything to do with Islamist terrorism. "

Yeah, the guy ignored multiple people on the street to target a soldier in uniform, just like the attacker days before in Quebec.

That's some solid analysis. Dare to be different, I guess.

The Vox is totally off base. The RCMP and CSIS (our versions of FBI and CIA, loosely) had earlier found his e-mail contacts in a computer that had been confiscated from a known terror suspect and Zehaf-Bibeau told his own mother a week ago that he was trying to go to Syria, but his passport had been revoked.

If people are trying to make some kind of contrarian argument, they could talk about his mental illness or reliance on drugs, but to say there's no connection to his conversion and his inspiration from ISIL and similar factions would be erroneous.

The Vox stance is consistent with the NYT and probably 75 % of SJ membership if
you've followed any of the previous discussion on Muslim attacks.

I'm not sure if the NYT has identified Major Hassan - The Fort Hood terrorist as Muslim yet.

As far as VOX article the only surprise is that the author did not mention Timothy McVeigh.

This picture brings a few tears to my eyes. Dog owners especially know what I'm talking about.
