No. He is not in the game as a pitcher until he pitches.
The go-ahead run scored before the reliever entered the game...the starter is the pitcher of record.

    Good catch!

    And yeah, I was wrong.

    (See? I can admit it. :D )

If a catcher drops a strike three and the batter gets to first, that's a passed ball, right?

  4. Not necessarily, but it is a strikeout.

At that point, he's merely a pinch-hitter. His team could have used him as a hitter and brought someone else in to pitch. He doesn't become the pitcher when he pinch-hits just because he has a P next to his name on the roster.

If your scenario was the case, a lot of bench players would get wins in the National League.

what else could it be other than a passed ball?

    Wild pitch

The call would be left to the discretion of the official scorer

I said, in the initial post, the catcher dropped it (as in, it didn't hit the dirt first).

the way i read it, i thought the catcher caught it on the hop.

If the catcher drops the third strike and the batter reaches first, the official stat is: K-E2

Might be different in softball but it wouldn't be an error in baseball:

    From MLB's online rulebook, section 10.12 (e):

I figured it can't be, since a better reaching on a wild pitch on strike 3 isn't being scored as an K-E1
