A glory seeking Riverside County supervisor wants most of Southern California -- all but LA -- to secede from the rest of the state.

"An angry Riverside County Supervisor Jeff Stone on Thursday proposed that Riverside and a dozen other counties secede from California, forming a new state of South California.

Stone said he will ask colleagues on the Riverside County Board of Supervisors on July 12 to endorse the idea of inviting representatives from San Diego, San Bernardino, Orange, Imperial, Kings, Kern, Fresno, Tulare, Inyo, Madera, Mariposa and Mono counties to gather and discuss the feasibility of secession.

Stone said he was driven to suggest forming a new state after the Legislature forwarded to Gov. Jerry Brown a bill that deeply cuts the revenue of four fledgling Riverside County cities, including Menifee and Wildomar, that are struggling to make ends meet."

As ridiculous as the plan is, could something like this work?

Even by the standards of publicity-seeking politicians, this is incredibly stupid.

First, Southern California needs to secede from Mexico, then ponder its future.

Not with those counties, you won't.

The cherrypicking/gerrymandering around LA, combined with him going as far north as Mono County to pick off most of the conservative counties -- and how did he leave out Ventura -- tells you all you need to know.

Yet another plunge in the collective IQ of our elected officials.

Riverside supe can't make ends meet with the budget Gov. Brown signed. His answer: let's balance a budget without tax revenues from LA, Ventura, Silicon Valley or San Francisco. Genius!

Well look at it this way:

Mexico can virtually retake the New SoCal.

Gay Marriage Prop 8-II would win by 70 percent if left to LA and Frisco alone.

For the Democrats then, it's a no-lose proposition.

They can call it the Republic of Petoria with Peter Griffin as president.

So we (Northern California) could probably charge them even more for water? Fine by me.

It's funny, he does realize that that money is raised from taxes, which he doesn't want to raise right? You can't pay bills with anti-tax pledges. Maybe he could hit Grover Norquist up for the money.

I love the perception on this board that people aren't taxed highly in the state of California. Holy shit.

San Bernardino County? Does he know that outside of Riverside/San Berdoo, Barstow and Needles, it's all desert?

EDIT: Yes, Riverside is in Riverside County. But outside of Palm Springs, not much but coyotes and used Acme products.
