Well, after freezing my ass off in Rhode Island for the past 30 years, I'm moving to Hawaii after accepting a position out there. I'm obviously really excited about the move, but it's also a bit overwhelming.

I have about three weeks to pick up my life and transport it to the Big Island and, frankly, I don't really know where to start. As I noted on another thread, I've never lived more than 11 miles from where I grew up. Now I'm moving 5,000 miles or so, with quite a bit of ocean in between.

I've figured out how to get my car out there, already gotten several quotes from shipping companies to get it there. However, I have no idea how to move my furniture out there. Most of my stuff I can pack into boxes and send through the mail, but I'm having trouble finding out how to get my bed, televisions, entertainment center and desk out there.

Anybody have any experience moving stuff overseas?

No, but congrats. Is the new place paying for the move?

Well then just buy a plane ticket for each individual box.

    Congratulations!

(Wish I could advise you on the rest, but I can't.)

Be sure to pack the 8-ball very carefully. You want to be nice to it.

Everyone I've known who has lived in Hawaii has said they got really bored with it, but damned if I wouldn't be willing to take that chance. I'm jealous, pern!

Yeah, gonna have to try to get some good karma from it. :D

I'm definitely willing to take that chance. :)

Not sure how attached you are to the stuff, but it would make sense to sell it off on Craigslist or something like that and buy new(er) things out there.
