The monologue, the MacGruber short and the NPR muffin skit.

Already the best SNL this season.

Loved Betty White talking about her muffin.

You're barking up the wrong lesbian.

Betty should be doing Weekend Update. No one's laughing at this skit between Rudolph and Meyers.

I like how the current cast has barely been in this show.

Yeah, lot of reminders tonight of how little talent remains with the show.

And yet, here comes Molly Shannon to remind us all that no talent is not limited to this cast.

    Very true.

Then I see Tina Fey, and think, "Why is she still slumming here? Surely she has better things to do than help spotlight how much the show misses her."

Again, who would have thunk that, considering how her tenure as head writer was so maligned? Palin bailed her bacon out.

Watching Molly Shannon is like watching Horatio Sanz with smaller boobs and less talent.

She was talented as shown by the fact she's established herself well away from SNL, but the show didn't exactly boast a top staff or cast when she was head writer. Her tenure was definitely part of the show's spiral, though. Maybe she just didn't belong on SNL?

As for Palin . . . that portrayal certainly hasn't hurt her career. Easiest Emmy anyone ever won.

Anyway, tonight's SNL was OK. Even back when the show was regularly entertaining, it still had a tendency to peter out after the first half. Tonight, it just got excruciating, especially that Jay-Z number with "Mr. Hudson" mutilating what I always thought was a nice little tune.

Completely cutting off the closing credits tonight was a nice finishing touch for what was clearly a "Shoot the works" episode. But they just HAD to get that short census skit in . . .
