I don't think anyone of sound mind who gave a rat's ass about American Idol or its history didn't figure Clay was gay. But it shows just how far in the crap hole his career had dropped that he needed to "come clean" to obtain the pub push that will be worth a few bucks. Word has it anyway that 19, and you can see this throughout the show, has dealt very quickly with potential image issues. They probably discouraged him from coming out; he was half-afraid of doing it and thus he waited until it was one of those oh what the hell moments.
