Who else might it have been?

Tiger? I guess, but he's gotten it twice before.

Federer? Deserved it more last year.

    A-Rod? No way.

No one in college sports really deserved it, except maybe Billy Donovan.

Could have given it to Peyton Manning, though it would have only been for what he did in the year's first month.

It really was. The SI story about the whole situation had me misty-eyed.

Favre's a good choice. I must admit I was hoping Dungy would get it.

    Barry Bonds anyone?

Broke his sport's most-hallowed record and got indicted in the same year ...

Or would that be like giving Osama bin Laden Time's Person of the Year? (though they did once give it to Hitler)

According to David Alrdrige, Chris Mortensen, and Kirk Herbstreit, DP has a show.

Now, go fetch a six-pack for spnited, newbie. He's thirsty and he's demands immediate service.

So we get to read yet another over-adulating, lets appreciate him while he's still here piece on Favre? Hasn't SI had enough of those? Why no love for Federer? Ok, he won't sell mags or bring in Favre's advertisers, but the man had a hell of a year.
I dig Favre, and the guy is deserving, but Favre clearly wasn't the most dominant athlete in the past year.

WTF D-3? How did I get in the middle of this?

Not that I'd turn down a six-pack... Yeungling, maybe

Who the hell is David Alrdrige? Any relation to David Aldridge?

    And get yourself a spell-check function ...

It's not just about who's dominant, or Jordan, Tiger and Federer would have won every year. Favre's a fine choice. Dungy would have been, too.

I still think Bonds was the most significant sports figure of the year ...

If Federer never gets this award, it'll be an embarrassment to SI.

At least Tony Dungy didn't win. However, my dark horse every year is Dikembe Mutumbo: still effective off the bench on top of giving loads of time and money to help his less fortunate countrymen.
