Sportsman of the Year is not necessarily a sportmanship award.

Like it or not, LeBron is the story of the year.

    Along those same lines...Dustin Johnson.

Seconded, albeit under the assumption he's never fighting Mayweather.

Not necessarily, but don't they define it differently than Time defines their person of the year?

Time has picked villains in the past. Has SI?

    Shut it.

    From Wikipedia:

    Let's hope this is true:

Last year's nominee essays didn't include eventual winner Derek Jeter:

If so, this thread might be a DB:

Cam Newton, but they'll have to strip him of the award in five years.

An excellent choice AQB, but I don't believe a horse has ever won. Secretariat didn't. In his Triple Crown year, they split the award between Billie Jean King and John Wooden. Or so I remember.

I think Brees ends up winning it. Another story of New Orleans redemption after Katrina.

If she had won the last race, especially coming from behind the way she almost did, she would have won it.

Not even horse of the year.
