LTL, thanks for your concern regarding my potential hire-ability but, believe me, I'm doing just fine in that regard. It must be hard for you to look down on all of us regular folks down here from your mountainside perch though so I commend you for even spending any of your precious time responding to me on this thread.
As for your most recent post, I never said Benoit's death touched off the concussion frenzy. I'm just pointing out one instance, off the top of my head, where the potential impact of concussions received nation-wide attention because the person I was responding to said this has only been a topic for the last two years which I call BS on.
As I stated in one of my posts above, the idea that the potential risks associated with concussions are a new topic is ludicrous. Absolutely ridiculous. Especially in the NFL. As early as 1999 concussions were being heavily covered by the national media. To say that some football player wasn't aware of the potential to suffer concussions is ridiculous. Ergo, in my opinion, Belcher knew what he was getting into when he agreed to play in the NFL.
Now, I will concede to you that, over the past few years, there has been a tremendous focus placed on the potential of concussions to severely alter a person's brain chemistry. And I do believe that more work needs to be done to further study this link.
But short of immediately ending all NFL games until this study is done or turning the league into a two-hand-touch league, I don't exactly know what this lawsuit is hoping to accomplish.
And, in my opinion, it's insane that someone would blame the Kansas City Chiefs for the actions that took place when Belcher did what he did. In my opinion, when he went out and decided to do what he did, he made that decision as an adult, just as he made the decision to play in the NFL.
Saying a football team is culpable for this action, in my opinion, is off base and takes the blame away from the person who actually committed this act.

The coverage I remember centered on the concussions and the impact they had on altering his brain chemistry which, if you believe Belcher's family's claim, is what happened here as well. In fact, it led to significant changes in the WWE in terms of shots to the head and, in my opinion, was the beginning of the wave of momentum that led to the current push to focus on concussions in sports more.
