Once the markets close at 4 p.m., CNBC ratings nosedive towards those of like the Tennis Channel and Showtime Westerns. Shep's not gonna turn that around. But it gets him in the NBC stable, which was the important part of the deal from Comcast's angle.

Just odd that they would try to distract eyes from MSNBC.

The overlap of the CNBC and MSNBC audiences is small indeed. CNBC's median viewer is a retired dentist in Scottsdale, Hilton Head or the Villages who day trades because he's bored and watches Fox for non-stock market news.

If they program it right and schedule a regular news show against CNN, MSNBC and Fox's primetime hosts, they'll do ok.

MSNBC had an opening at 7 p.m. but gave it to Joy Reid

It is a measure of how much Comcast cares what CNBC runs after the markets close that during the Olympics, it shows boxing for the Summer Games and curling (an actual weird ratings hit) for the Winter Games.

Is that finalized? I thought they are still doing a bake off?

Happy for Shepard to have him back on a desk, somewhere. Always felt he's one of the best in handling breaking news and unscripted situations.
