Watching Sharkwater, a nice indie film. Debunks all the shark are killers myths. Damn shame that sharks get such a bad rap. You are more likely to get killed by lightening. Elephants kill more people per year.

Sharks are getting obliterated and our oceans will never be the same. They predated the dinosaurs by 400 million years and have never had a problem; until man showed up. Damn shame. I hope the world gets their act in order.

Me and my friends get no respect.
What does Scooby do that we neglect?
We be puttin' all our foes in check,
but me and my friends get no respect.

    So what? Who cares?
We're doin' it how we like.
    I'm singin' into my mic,
    A special underwater mic.

    Who's gonna save the world?
    Who's gonna save the day?
    From Ahab, crabs who steal
And eerie eels with evil rays?

    Who's gonna talk like Curly,
    Since Curly isn't here?
Who's gonna chase down villains and then
Turn around and run in fear?

You know who I'm talkin' about,
He's fat and short on brains and
I do not mean Captain Caveman,
    I mean Jabberjaw.

My wife bought that for me over the weekend. I thought it was a bit heavy-handed with some of the presentation (the 'Why can't you see' song as sharks were being de-finned comes to mind right away) but there was some good visual stuff there. Too, it is pretty amazing/scary how much money is wrapped up in the whole shark industry. Sadly, considering that amount of money, sharks don't stand a chance.

-- Mr. Vaughan, what we are dealing with here is a perfect engine, an eating machine. It's really a miracle of evolution. All this machine does is swim, and eat, and make little sharks, and that's all.

-- You'd love to prove that, wouldn't you. Get your name into the National Geographic.

Meanwhile on the other coast, the usual place is having the usual number of shark attacks in three days: 3 (one each Saturday, Sunday, Monday).

Never a food shortage for them.

I saw a blacktip on the western coast just a few weeks ago.

They are doing what they do.
